Launch of the Pl@ntNet GBIF portal

We are pleased to open the Pl@ntNet GBIF portal: a dedicated window on the plant observations that the Pl@ntNet community shares with the world through GBIF, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility.

Why a portal?

Pl@ntNet has been publishing its most reliable observations on GBIF since 2020. Today that means more than 14 million occurrences of some 21,000 species, reused in over 1,700 scientific publications. Until now, exploring them meant navigating gbif.org among two billion other records. This portal shows only Pl@ntNet data, with the same search, map, gallery and download tools GBIF provides.

What you can do here

  • Search occurrences by species, country, date or dataset, and switch between table, gallery, map, clusters and dashboard views
  • Download any selection as a GBIF download with its own citable DOI
  • Browse the datasets and their metadata
  • Follow the literature that cites Pl@ntNet data
  • Read about the data: how records are selected, what they contain and how to cite them

Built with GBIF

This site is a GBIF hosted portal. The data components are developed by GBIF and shared with dozens of national and thematic portals; we only configure and host them. Many thanks to the GBIF Secretariat for making this possible.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome at contact@plantnet.org.
